Visit the Tvshkahomma Capitol Museum during the Choctaw Labor Day Festival (September 4-6, 2026) to see the new temporary exhibit 'Ittichakvli Tok: What is the Choctaw Irish Connection?' This inspiring exhibit highlights the long-standing friendship and cultural ties between the Choctaw and Irish peoples. The story of the Choctaw Nation's donation to Ireland during the Great Famine of 1847 has been shared and celebrated by many, especially in recent years, but the legacy that act left extends far beyond a single moment in time. The museum is housed within the historic Choctaw Capitol Building, originally constructed in 1884. Tvshkahomma, translated as 'red warrior' in the Choctaw language, is the name given to the structure and the surrounding Capitol grounds. The interior houses a gift shop as well as rooms for exhibits and events. The grounds surrounding the Museum feature sculptures, outdoor exhibits, and walking paths with educational displays that highlight various cultural elements of Choctaw history, as well as a Veterans' Memorial.
